Route overview
A transfer from IAD Dulles to Tysons covers about 15 miles and usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. The route follows the Dulles Toll Road and I-495 Beltway east to exits near VA-123, International Drive, or Route 7 depending on your address. Tysons is the largest business district in Northern Virginia and includes Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. Dulles is the closest major airport to Tysons, which makes this a popular route for corporate travelers. The Silver Line provides a Metro option, but a private car is faster when you have luggage or multiple stops. Our dispatch team is a New York-based company that arranges Washington DC service through vetted local affiliate operators.
Roads and traffic
We use the Dulles Toll Road east to the I-495 Beltway, then exit onto VA-123, Route 7, or International Drive. The Toll Road moves well outside of rush, but the I-495 merge and local Tysons interchanges can back up. Route 7 and Chain Bridge Road carry heavy local traffic, so we adjust exits based on your exact address. Morning rush into Tysons from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and evening rush out from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. are the worst. Midday and late evening are usually smooth. The Tysons Corner area has several Silver Line Metro stations, but road congestion often affects the final mile.
Pricing
Sedan transfers from IAD to Tysons start at $160, and SUV transfers start at $165. Rates include tolls, gratuity, and meet-and-greet inside the terminal. Additional stops, wait time, or late-night service may increase the fare. SUVs are recommended for luggage, groups, or bad weather.
When to add buffer
Add 15 to 25 minutes during weekday rush, shopping mall peak times, and events at the Capital One Arena or Wolf Trap that draw traffic onto the Beltway. The I-495 interchange near the Dulles Toll Road can jam unexpectedly. If your pickup is at 8 a.m. on a Tuesday, budget the longer end of the range. Friday afternoon outbound from Tysons is consistently slower than the rest of the week.
