Route overview
A transfer from Washington DC to Annapolis covers about 35 miles and usually takes 45 to 75 minutes. The route follows US-50 east across the Severn River Bridge and into downtown Annapolis or the Naval Academy area. Annapolis is Maryland’s capital and a popular destination for government officials, sailing events, and Naval Academy functions. The city center has narrow colonial streets and limited parking, so a private drop-off is usually the easiest option. The Naval Academy occupies about 340 acres along the Severn River, and many events require security screening. Our dispatch team is a New York-based company that arranges Washington DC service through vetted local affiliate operators.
Roads and traffic
We use US-50 east from DC, then MD-450 or Rowe Boulevard depending on your destination. US-50 is a major divided highway until it approaches Annapolis, where it narrows and merges with local streets. Morning rush eastbound from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Friday afternoon outbound from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. are the heaviest windows. Weekend traffic increases during boat show weekends and Naval Academy events. Midday and late evening are generally smooth. The Severn River Bridge is only about one mile long, but the approach can back up for several miles on summer Fridays.
Pricing
Sedan transfers from DC to Annapolis start at $160, and SUV transfers start at $215. Hourly service is also available from $120 per hour if you need multiple stops or a waiting car. Rates include tolls, gratuity, and door-to-door service. SUVs are recommended for groups, luggage, or winter weather.
When to add buffer
Add 25 to 40 minutes during weekday rush, Naval Academy graduation and commissioning weeks, and the Annapolis Boat Shows in October. The Severn River Bridge can back up quickly, and downtown Annapolis streets clog with pedestrians. If you have a timed event, book the earlier pickup. Summer weekends add beach traffic heading toward the Chesapeake Bay bridges.
