Route overview

A sedan or SUV transfer from IAD Dulles to downtown Washington DC covers about 27 miles and usually takes 35 to 65 minutes. The route follows the Dulles Toll Road and I-66 east, then crosses the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and continues via Constitution Avenue or K Street NW. Dulles sits in Loudoun County, well outside the Beltway, so the drive is longer but predictable outside of rush. Downtown includes the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the White House perimeter, and the Farragut West business district. The Dulles main terminal is paired with midfield concourses connected by the AeroTrain and mobile lounges. Our dispatch team is a New York-based company that arranges Washington DC service through vetted local affiliate operators.

Roads and traffic

We use the Dulles Toll Road, also known as Virginia Route 267, then I-66 east toward the Roosevelt Bridge. The Toll Road is generally free flowing until it merges with I-66 near Falls Church. Morning rush into DC from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and evening rush out from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. can add 20 to 35 minutes. Reverse-peak travel is usually much faster. Saturdays and midday weekdays are the most reliable windows. The Roosevelt Bridge approach can jam when multiple motorcades converge near the Kennedy Center and the State Department.

Pricing

Sedan transfers from IAD to downtown DC start at $160, and SUV transfers start at $195. These rates include tolls, gratuity, and meet-and-greet service at the terminal. Additional stops, wait time, or late-night service may increase the fare. SUVs are useful for large luggage, groups of four, or inclement weather.

When to add buffer

Add 30 to 45 minutes during weekday rush, international arrival peaks, and major conventions at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. I-66 eastbound in the morning is brutal, and downtown street access can be blocked by motorcades or diplomatic events. If your flight lands at 5 p.m. on a weekday, expect a slower trip. Winter weather on the Toll Road can also add unpredictable delays.
