Route overview

A transfer from Embassy Row to IAD Dulles covers about 26 miles and usually takes 40 to 70 minutes. Embassy Row runs along Massachusetts Avenue NW near Dupont Circle and Scott Circle, and the route to Dulles uses K Street, I-66 west, and the Dulles Toll Road. The neighborhood is dense with embassies, hotels, and think tanks, so midday diplomatic events can affect street access. Dulles is northwest of DC in Loudoun County, and the drive crosses the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. Massachusetts Avenue between Dupont Circle and Observatory Circle is lined with more than 50 embassies and chanceries. Our dispatch team is a New York-based company that arranges Washington DC service through vetted local affiliate operators.

Roads and traffic

We use Massachusetts Avenue to K Street or the Whitehurst Freeway, then I-66 west and the Dulles Toll Road. I-66 westbound is heavy from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and can back up before the Roosevelt Bridge. Massachusetts Avenue itself slows during diplomatic arrivals, motorcades, and evening events. Morning departures between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. are usually easier than afternoon departures. Late-night and midday rides are the most predictable. Rain or a crash on the Roosevelt Bridge can add 20 minutes before you even reach Virginia.

Pricing

Sedan transfers from Embassy Row to IAD start at $160, and SUV transfers start at $195. Rates include tolls, gratuity, and door-to-door pickup at your embassy, hotel, or residence. Additional stops, wait time, or late-night service may increase the fare. SUVs are recommended for luggage, groups, or bad weather.

When to add buffer

Add 30 to 45 minutes during weekday evening rush, diplomatic events, and thunderstorms. I-66 westbound in the late afternoon is brutal, and embassy security can close Massachusetts Avenue blocks without warning. If your flight departs between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., plan for the longer end of the drive. State Department events near 23rd Street can also affect K Street access.
