Route overview

A transfer from BWI Marshall to downtown Washington DC covers about 32 miles and usually takes 45 to 75 minutes. The route follows I-195 west to MD-295, also known as the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, then continues onto DC-295 and New York Avenue NE into the city center. BWI is northeast of DC near Baltimore, so this is the longest of the three airport runs. Downtown destinations include Union Station, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and the Capitol Hill office district. BWI has a single terminal with five concourses, and commercial traffic can back up at the terminal curb during peak banks. Our dispatch team is a New York-based company that arranges Washington DC service through vetted local affiliate operators.

Roads and traffic

We use I-195 west to MD-295 south, then DC-295 and New York Avenue NE for most downtown addresses. The BW Parkway can move well outside rush, but it narrows to two lanes in sections and is prone to crashes. Morning rush into DC from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and evening rush north from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. add 20 to 30 minutes. New York Avenue can also slow near the Florida Avenue intersection and the Union Station approaches. Midday and late evening are usually the smoothest windows. The route passes near Fort Meade, so military convoys occasionally affect traffic.

Pricing

Sedan transfers from BWI to downtown DC start at $160, and SUV transfers start at $185. Rates include tolls, gratuity, and meet-and-greet service in the arrivals hall. Additional stops, wait time, or late-night service may increase the fare. SUVs are useful for larger luggage, groups, or winter weather.

When to add buffer

Add 30 to 45 minutes during weekday rush, Orioles or Ravens game days, and major conventions downtown. The BW Parkway has few alternate routes, so a single crash can cause long backups. If your flight lands at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday, expect a slower ride. Snow or ice on the parkway can extend the trip quickly because plow coverage is lighter than on I-95.
